A typical consultation will last about 30 mins.
After introducing himself, the surgeon will obtain a detailed account of your symptoms. In some cases he may ask you to provide some information before hand. He will then examine your veins carefully and do an ultrasound scan of your varicose veins to help him decide what is the ideal treatment
After completing his assessment he will give his honest opinion of whether treatment is required and what the treatment options are. He will carefully explain the procedure to you and what investigations are required before hand (preop) and what you can expect afterwards (aftercare). He will give you a patient information leaflet either on paper or electronically.
He will give you time to think it over and will carefully explain the risks, benefits and alternatives to the procedure, thereby commencing the consent process. Most of all, Mr Choksy will encourage you to ask questions.
A GP referral is not required to book a consultation but one is always preferred if possible.
